null 112 – number that may save your life
11 February is the European 112 Emergency Telephone Number Day. It was created in order to call for help in case of emergency, from any location in Europe, 24/7, when your life or the lives of others are threatened.
This number should be dialed only in case of real risk to health or life. Unfortunately, this rule is often broken not only in Poland but all over Europe.
According to the Warsaw Emergency Call Centre (CPR) located at 43/45 Młynarska St., the biggest problem are unfounded calls, which still represent ¾ of calls.
False calls are mostly mistakes, children’s plays with phones, questions not associated with the rescue, ordering services ( i.e. catering) and accidental calls, which block the 112 line in case of risk to health or life.
How does the CPR work?
17 emergency call centres in Poland are located in every provincial city and also in Radom.
The basic objective of the system is to answer a call the soonest possible and to notify the emergency services. If the provincial 112 for local call is blocked , it is transferred to another provincial emergency centre according to the substitution principle. A 112 consultant locate the event and transfers the information to relevant services.
Information system operating in emergency call centres enables to identify a calling number, indicating personal data of the owner and showing a location of the phone on the map. It enables to help people who cannot give their exact location ( i.e. children and in case of car accidents outside built area), but also to identify false calls.
