On 1 August 1944, the Warsaw Uprising broke out. This largest armed operation by the resistance in German-occupied Europe has become a symbol of the Poles’ heroism and their love of freedom.
As every year, on 1 August at 5.00 pm, air-raid sirens will sound to mark the anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising. Residents will pause in the streets to observe a minute’s silence in honour of the fallen insurgents.
Traffic will also come to a standstill at this moment. Tram drivers and bus drivers will stop their vehicles for one minute. During the pause, drivers may also sound their horns. Metro trains will also come to a stop.

The organisation of the main ceremonies will involve changes to traffic arrangements. Only vehicles with permits, taxis transporting participants in the Uprising, MTON vehicles, technical services and buses carrying the colour guards will be allowed access to the event venues.
