null Granting temporary protection by assigning a PESEL number with UKR status
You can obtain a PESEL number with UKR status if you are a person who legally arrived in Poland in connection with the military operations conducted in Ukraine from 24 February 2022, and at the same time you are:
- a Ukrainian citizen who lived in Ukraine before February 24, 2022, or you are a member of his/her family,
- a stateless person or a citizen of a third country other than Ukraine who benefited from international protection or equivalent national protection in Ukraine before February 24, 2022, or you are a member of his/her family,
- a stateless person or a citizen of a third country other than Ukraine, who can prove that he/she legally resided in Ukraine before February 24, 2022, and who cannot return to his/her country or region of origin in safe and sustainable conditions.
[!] If you want to obtain a trusted profile in order to be able to handle official matters in Poland online, you must have:
- a mobile phone with a number from a Polish operator and you must also be the sole user of that number.
- an active e-mail address you are using.
Step by step
- Download and complete the application for a PESEL number in connection with the conflict in Ukraine.
[!] You can also obtain the form at the office. - Submit your application to any Administration & Resident Services District Delegation.
- The clerk will take your fingerprints and a signature. We do not take:
- We do not take fingerprints from:
- a person who is under 6 years of age,
- a person from whom it is temporarily physically impossible to take fingerprints of any of the fingers,
- a person from whom fingerprinting is physically impossible.
- copy a handwritten signature from a person:
- a person who is under 12 years of age,
- where it is physically impossible to sign.

- We will assign you your PESEL number immediately.
Required documents
- Application for a PESEL number in connection with the conflict in Ukraine
- For inspection - a valid travel document that proves your identity.
- A 35×45 mm colour photograph taken on photographic paper no earlier than 6 months before the date of application. The photograph must meet the requirements set out in the regulations. Check what conditions your photo should meet.
- Documents that confirm the parents' details if a PESEL is to be assigned to a minor.

Fees
You do not need to pay a fee for assigning a PESEL number due to the conflict in Ukraine.
Application and collection point
You may submit your application in person at any Administration & Resident Services District Delegation of the City of Warsaw.

Appeal procedure
You cannot appeal in this case.
Notes
- You cannot apply for temporary protection by assigning a PESEL number with UKR status if you meet any of the following conditions:
- you have permission:
- for permanent residence,
- for temporary residence,
- for the residence of a long-term EU resident,
- you have a status of a refugee,
- you have subsidiary protection,
- you have permission:
- for tolerated stay,
- for residence on humanitarian grounds,
- you have submitted or have submitted applications for international protection in Poland,
- applications for international protection have been submitted on your behalf,
- you have received temporary protection in the territory of a European Union Member State other than Poland, granted due to war operations conducted in Ukraine,
- you have entered the territory of Poland based on a local border traffic permit.
- you have permission:
- An application may be submitted by a person who has full legal capacity.
- On behalf of a person who lacks legal capacity or has limited legal capacity, or of a person who, due to a health condition or disability, is unable to make the application individually, the application shall be submitted by one of the parents, a guardian, a court-appointed administrator, a temporary guardian appointed by the guardianship court, or a person who has actual custody of the child.
- If you are over 18 years of age, you can agree on assigning a PESEL number to enter your data (e-mail address, mobile phone number) in the contact data register and to confirm your trusted profile.
- You must submit an application for a PESEL number with UKR status within 30 days of crossing the border.
- If you do not apply for a PESEL number within 30 days of your arrival, you will lose the right to temporary protection in Poland.
- You will lose the right to temporary protection if you leave Poland for more than 30 days.
- The existing certificates of temporary protection in Poland issued by the Head of the Office for Foreigners are replaced by the assignment of a PESEL number with UKR status, and consequently, downloading a mobile document, i.e. the Diia card.
